Community Art Exhibition

 
 

ABOUT

Creative Soul of Dayton is an art exhibit aimed at showcasing the highest quality of individual artistic achievement in the visual arts in the Dayton region. Visual artists residing within a 25 mile radius of the city of Dayton are invited to share their artistic achievements with the community during this month-long exhibition.


Prizes will include an opportunity to exhibit your work in one of the Oregon Arts District galleries, cash and merit awards.


The exhibition is organized by Susan Byrnes of University of Dayton’s ArtStreet and ‘This Is Dayton’ group of the DaytonCREATE initiative.


EXHIBITION ELIGIBILITY

The exhibition is open to all artists living within a 25 mile radius of the city of Dayton who are 18 years of age or older. All work must be original and completed in the past five years.


Works in all media will be accepted, including 2-D, 3-D, installation, video, and multimedia. Video and Installation artists must make arrangements to install their work before drop off dates. Contact Susan Byrnes for more info. To ensure adequate space for everyone, please restrict your 2-D entries to a maximum of  48” x 48”.


PRIZE JUROR

Eva Buttacavoli is an independent curator and art educator. Previously, she was the director of exhibitions and education at the Austin Museum of Art, where she was recognized for creating art experiences that connect to everyday life and curated numerous exhibitions. Buttacavoli also has served as director of education at the Miami Art Museum and Florida International University’s Frost Art Museum in Miami. She was awarded museum educator of the year in both Texas (2006) and Florida (1999).


EXHIBITION AWARDS

Prior to the exhibition opening, prize juror Eva Buttacavoli will select winning works in a variety of categories. Three artists winning best of show will each win a solo exhibit of his or her work the Link Gallery in the Oregon Arts District, and includes exhibition and professional development advising provided by Ms. Buttacavoli.

EXHIBITION RECEPTION

An opening reception for the exhibition will be held during the free monthly downtown arts hop, First Friday, from 5:00-10:00 p.m. Friday, October 2, when award winners will be announced. A closing reception will be held from 5:00-10:00 p.m. Friday, November 6, during that month’s First Friday event.


ARTWORK DELIVERY

Works should be hand delivered to the Armory Building, 201 E 6th Street, Dayton (3rd Floor) on Sunday, September 20 between 12 noon and 6:00 p.m. or Monday, September 21 between 4:00 and 8:00 p.m.


Artwork must be delivered ready for display.


  1. 2-D works must be framed and wired on the back.

  2. Artists are encouraged to provide own pedestals for 3-D works, however, some are available per request. Please contact Susan Byrnes for more information.

  3. Multimedia artists must provide own equipment.


Artwork should be picked up on Friday, November 6 between 10:00 and 11:00 p.m. or Saturday, November 7 between 12:00 and 6:00 p.m.


The Creative Soul of Dayton group, University of Dayton’s ArtStreet, Gottschlich & Portune, LLP and Armory, LLC, will not be responsible for works left on the premises after Saturday, November 7th.


INSURANCE

Artists are responsible for insuring their own work for the duration of the exhibition and during transit.
